The 2010 NFPA Conference & Expo will feature a fantastic line up of education sessions (see the full list, PDF, 1.1 MB), and we'd like to continue to build on the quality of the sessions at future conferences. But we need your help! Please take a few moments to tell us how we could improve the conference portion of the event.
- What topics or specific sessions you would like to see?
- What kind of formats you prefer (e.g. lectures, case studies, round table discussions)?
- What else could NFPA do to improve the educational portion of this event?
This is your conference, so let us know how we can make it more valuable for you.
It's easy to respond: just click on the "comments" link below, enter your name (just your first name is fine) and your e-mail address (this will NOT show in your post), and type your comments in the white box. Then select "post". Thank you.

I was wondering why the schloarship is open to only fire fighters. As a life safety inspector i would like to join as educator.

The NFPA scholarship to the Las Vegas meeting is open to fire and life safety educators who work for a fire department. Many educators working for a fire department do not have the funding to attend a national conference. NFPA is reaching out to offer financial support to fire and life safety educators so they can take part in our continuing education opportunities. If you are a fire and life safety educator working for a local fire department, please feel free to apply for a scholarship.

Can a seminar be developed to address the use of BIM and the impact it will play from the design phase of a structure through to the first responders?

NFPA seminars are typically based on NFPA codes and standards, but this subject seems well suited for the conference. I'll include your idea in our content development process for the 2011 conference, and see what develops. Thank you for posting.

Environmentally friendly Polypropylene pipe (no toxins) using Fusion connections (no glues) engineered for Fire Sprinkler Applications has been in Europe for nearly a decade and has now passed the tests for North American use. Do you have any seminars on this topic?

While we don’t have any sessions specifically dedicated to polypropylene pipe and fusion connections, we do have three sessions that will be discussing environmental issues surrounding fire sprinklers. On Monday, June 7th, in session M20, Victoria Valentine of the NFSA will be discussing the green value of fire sprinklers systems, including issues such as water usage and fire emissions.
On Tuesday, June 8th, in session T16, Dominick Kasmauskas, also of the NFSA, will provide an overview of the U.S. Green Building Council’s, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program. He will be discussing among other topics, the fire problem in the U.S. from an environmental perspective and the NFSA’s pursuit of recognition for fire sprinklers in the USGBC LEED program.
Also on Tuesday, in session T54, Paul Rivers of 3M Company will be discussing various regulatory issues that affect fire protection engineers and how SFPE’s ethics canon which states, “Fire protection engineers shall perform their professional duties in such a manner that respects the environment” can help the fire protection engineer.
