View 29 popular education sessions with NFPA's Virtual Conference

Whether you'll be attending NFPA's Conference & Expo in Las Vegas or not, you can still be part of the action! By taking part in NFPA's "Virtual Conference", you can view 29 popular education sessions, recorded live and streamed on-demand, at your convenience. You'll see PowerPoint presentations that are synchronized with audio, exactly as they were presented in Las Vegas.

Featured education sessions will be posted 24-48 hours after each presentation and will be available for 90 days after the conference. The first sessions will be available for viewing on Tuesday, June 8.

NFPA's Virtual Conference allows you to:

• Earn .1 CEUs for each 1-hour session you view online
• View selected sessions anytime, anywhere
• Repeat presentations for added clarity and greater understanding
• Learn essential content the same as if you attended live

You can also order a USB flash drive that contains the 29 education sessions. However, no CEUs will be awarded for viewing these sessions.

Conference & Expo attendees will receive special discount pricing. Sessions included in the Virtual Conference will be designated with a special logo in the on-site program and on signage throughout the Mandalay Bay Convention Center.

Standards Forum to address proposed changes to NFPA document development process

As a result of NFPA's review of its entire codes and standards development process, including a detailed survey of all Technical Committee members and focused interviews, we've implemented changes to the current process and continue to improve the committee member experience. Come hear about the proposed "Re-Engineering of the Codes and Standards Process", and other future changes and how NFPA is contemplating streamlining and simplifying the process. 

Please attend the NFPA Standards Forum on Tuesday, June 8 at 1:00 pm in the Mandalay Bay Ballroom L to hear the latest from Jim Pauley, Chair of the Standards Council; Amy Cronin, Secretary of the Standards Council and Chris Dubay, NFPA Vice President and Chief Engineer.

"Meet Me In Las Vegas" - A look back at films that feature Las Vegas, site of NFPA's Conference & Expo

Next up in our series of films that feature Las Vegas is the 1956 MGM musical "Meet Me In Las Vegas" starring dancer Cyd Charisse, a pre-"Bewitched" Agnes Moorehead, and a pre-"Gilligan's Island" Jim Backus. Lots of big staged production numbers in this film, which tells the simple story of a rancher (Dan Dailey) who falls in love with a Vegas ballerina (!?). The movie features lots of cameo appearances, including Frank Sinatra, Debbie Reynolds, and Peter Lorre. Sammy Davis Jr. sings "Frankie and Johnny" in the dance sequence below. Be sure to note how Charisse walks down the flight of steps at about the minute-and-a-half marker in the clip. Classic!

"Rain Man" - A look back at films that feature Las Vegas, site of NFPA's Conference & Expo

Next up in our series of films that feature Las Vegas is "Rain Man". This 1988 movie featured an Oscar-winning performance by Dustin Hoffman as Raymond Babbitt, an autistic man who is reunited with his brother Charlie (played by Tom Cruise) after their father's death. In the clip below, Charlie takes Raymond to Las Vegas when he learns that despite being autistic, his brother has an excellent memory and can win big money at the blackjack table by counting cards. The script was originally sent to Hoffman (for the role played by Cruise) and to Bill Murray for the role of Raymond.
