Marsha Giesler, NFPA's Fire and Life Safety Educator of the Year, is congratulated by NFPA Chair Tom Jaeger and Ernest Grant, Outreach Nurse Clinician for the North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center, and First Vice Chair of the NFPA Board.
Marsha Giesler of the Downers Grove (IL) Fire Department, received NFPA’s “Fire and Life Safety Educator of the Year Award” during today’s Opening General Session in Las Vegas.
Ms. Giesler, who serves as the department’s public information officer, juvenile fire interventionist, and assistant to the chief, visits 17 public and private elementary schools each month and routinely conducts evacuation drills in her community. She also recently wrote Fire and Life Safety Educator, a 400-page reference book published by Delmar Cengage Learning.
She has has implemented fire safety education programs using NFPA materials for more than 20 years and has made Learn Not to Burn Preschool Program®, Risk Watch®, and Remembering When™: A Fire and Fall Prevention Program for Older Adults the cornerstone of her educational outreach.
