About the Project

  • The NFPA Electric Vehicle Safety Training project, is a nationwide program to help firefighters and other first responders prepare for the growing number of electric vehicles on the road in the United States. Funded by a $4.4 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy, it provides first responders with information they need to most effectively deal with potential emergency situations involving electric vehicles.

About NFPA

  • NFPAThe mission of the international nonprofit NFPA, established in 1896, is to reduce the worldwide burden of fire and other hazards on the quality of life by providing and advocating consensus codes and standards, research, training, and education.

The pay offs for these trucks are not just environmental, owners save in fuel costs as well as on their taxes.

I must be really naive for some reason I thought that the electric car had never taken off, let alone there being a truck which was electric upon which sales were up. Interesting, I don't thing that I would recognise one if I saw one.

How much more does an electric trust cost oppose to a petrol or diesel one of the same size? It is more cost effective for businesses to have a truck of this nature.

Alton Tomaselli

This was indeed a right step. It could revolutionize the electric truck market and impact the automobile economy. Also, consumers will be able to save more money from the gas pump while helping the environment recover from emissions and pollutions.

The pay offs for these vehicles are not just ecological, entrepreneurs spend less in petrol expenditures as well as on their taxation.

For the conversion pcoress you would be taking out the engine, fuel system, exhaust system, cooling system and a few designs will remove the transmission. You will typically be installing a storage device (batteries) a charging and power management system (BMS) a motor controller, and an electric motor.1ICE (internal combustion engine) cars pollute the environment not only in their use from emissions but from the improper disposal of their lubricants, many parts that must be changed that are not recycled, but also in the supply and refining of the many parts, fuel and lubricants.2 Biofuels will not resolve all these pollution issues as they would use an ICE.ICE vehicles are very inefficient as most of the energy in the fuel is turned into heat and wear instead of motion. Biofuels using an ICE are not more efficient. They are only about 15% efficient at the wheels while an electric vehicle can be over 90% efficient.3Electric vehicles have torque at 0 RPM and are more efficient throughout their range. The ICE requires a transmission to keep it within its sweet spot of around 3000 to 5000 RPM. Electric vehicles may have only 5 moving parts in the drivetrain and therefore maintenance and life expectancy of the vehicles is expected to the far less and far longer.Because ICE vehicles must be hot to achieve their minimal efficiency they idle when the car is standing in traffic. This causes more pollution than the electric vehicle that uses no power if sitting in traffic. Electric trains last 8 to 10 times longer than ICE buses more than making up for the initial expense with cheaper maintenance, fuel and longer life. Overall costs are therefore cheaper for full electric vehicles. Without the need for lubricants or emissions electric vehicles are cleaner. They are also quieter and therefore reduce noise pollution. Both of these are advantageous if not essential in wildlife and indoor situations. While it may take 10 minutes to refuel an ICE vehicle an electric vehicle can be charged at home. This avoids the charging time and a separate trip just to refuel the vehicle. Refueling an ICE vehicle requires attention, but refueling an EV is like putting clothes into a washing machine, setting a coffee machine, or a rice maker. Once it is set it can take care of itself freeing us to take care of other business. On longer trips instead of arguments developing over whether to stop for bathroom breaks regular stops may be required by a pure EV with presently technology. Sadly, as new energy storage and energy transmission technology develops this may be a short lived advantage.4_________________
