The National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) has been re-organizing over the past several months to improve alignment with its member federal agencies and state foresters. As part of the re-organization, it has addressed the tens of working teams, advisory groups, committees, and the tasks associated with each one.
On January 9, the NWCG moved one more step closer to better communications and coordination when Chair Brian McManus recently announced the selection of the three Branch Coordinators. Named were Paul Schlobohm - Branch of Equipment and Technology (effective 4 jan09); and Elaine Waterbury - Branch of Policy, Planning, and Management (effective 1 Feb09); and Tim Blake - Branch of Preparedness (effective 4Jan09).
The Branch Coordinators each assume the responsibility of making sure that the work of the current teams and committees are coordinated to reduce redundancy, improve the final product or service, and increase the efficiency of wildland fire operations and safety. - Jim Smalley
