I am not sure how many of you out there are asking yourself the same question, "Where did the summer go?", but it seemed to go by much faster than in years past. I didn't realize that until my son went back to school this week and I came to the harsh reality that the summer had slipped away.
I will say that just because the summer is behind us, that doesn't mean the fall isn't a great time of year as well. The days are still fairly warm and the nights a bit cooler. The roads seem to be less congested and there is also the turning of the leaves, which can be a pretty neat thing up here in the Northeast. Along with all that we have the kids going back to school, specifically those that are going off to college for the first time or maybe those that are returning. This brings me to the point that the month of September is "Campus Fire Safety Month".
There is a website www.campus-firewatch.com that provides a wealth of information regarding the issue of dorm safety as it relates to fires. I bring this point up because I recall when I was first into college I never took a second to even think about how safe my dorm was. It was just assumed that our safety was ensured by the college. While this, I am certain, is a high if not the highest priority of colleges and universityies throughout I only mention this just to rasie the awareness level of the students and parents whose children might be returning to college or attending for the first time. I firmly believe that any information or lessons that students and parents can get on the safety of the campus and dorms they are living in are lessons well learned.
So I urge everyone to take a look at that website this month and spend a few minutes reviewing the documents and video clips that is provided on campus fire safety.
Thank you.
