As many of you are aware, of if you aren’t then you will be after reading this, that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and it is symbolized by the color pink. If anyone this month has had the chance to watch an NFL game on television they have seen pink splashed all over the place. It can be seen on the hats, goal posts, towels, and shoes of the players and coaches. It seems to be everywhere, which I think passively lets everyone know that breast cancer is everywhere and can impact anyone’s life. My mother in law is a breast cancer survivor, as well as lung and lymph nodal and not a day goes by where her life as well as her family’s life isn’t impacted by this as well. Also recently my wife’s aunt, so my mother in law’s sister, was just diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. So while October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, the disease itself doesn’t take a break the other 11 months of the year.
That being said there are plenty of organizations out there that are doing a spectacular job at assisting and working towards a cure, as well as providing a network for survivors and their families to cope with this disease. I want to mention one in particular that is pretty neat. I am not saying that one is better than the other; it’s just that this one is pretty neat. The organization is Pink Heels and the website is Pink Fire Trucks and they travel the country with a piece of fire apparatus that is pink and in each city they stop they allow you to sign the truck. This organization pays particular attention to those in the fire service and law enforcement, but they support everyone in their cause. I realize this is not the most uplifting blog but this issue is close to me, as I am sure it is with others, and I wanted to take a minute to make mention of it.
