The Technical Committee on Respiratory Protection Equipment has scheduled its Report on Proposals (ROP) meeting for three documents for July 19-21, 2011 in Missoula, MT. These standards, currently in the Fall 2012 cycle, include NFPA 1852, Standard on Selection, Care, and Maintenance of Open-Circuit Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA); NFPA 1981, Standard on Open-Circuit Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) for Emergency Services; and NFPA 1989, Standard on Breathing Air Quality for Fire and Emergency Services Respiratory Protection.
Among the issues that the technical committee will be considering are minimum requirements for the design, performance, testing, and certification of SCBAs for non-fire applications. Also under consideration are radiant heat testing for facepiece lenses, protocols for Speech Transmission Index (STI) tests, buddy breathers, and escape systems.
Information on each of these standards, including proposal and comment forms, cycle dates and much more can be found on the Doc Info pages at www.nfpa.org/1852, www.nfpa.org/1981, and www.nfpa.org/1989.
