Hey, not only is it the start of summer for most of us but it could also be the start of something good for everyone. Well those who consider the beginning of June to be the start of summer, and yes the official date is June 21st but who wants to wait that long.
Since 2008 the first week in June has been title National CPR and AED Awareness Week, and this year it is June 1st through June 7th. This event is supported by the American Red Cross and the American Heart Association with the goal of promoting CPR and AED training in as many states, cities and towns as possible across the country.
Here at the NFPA we held a company CPR recertification class this week as well as put into place 4 new AED’s and updated another older AED we had in use here in the building. We did our part by partaking in this annual event, and I would encourage everyone else who have the ability and resources to do the same. It was noted that approximately 300,000 people each year suffer from sudden cardiac arrest and if we can all do our part, whatever it may be, to help those who need it can only produce a positive outcome. The more people who are trained in the use of an AED and CPR and who opt to offer assistance to someone in cardiac arrest certainly will help to reduce the number of those who die from sudden cardiac arrest.
Check out the story and also take note that there is an SOS app in the Android market that was created by the American Heart Association.
Stay safe and have a great weekend.
