The nonprofit Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition (HFSC) has introduced a video narrated by California State Fire Marshal Tonya Hoover to educate California homeowners who are living in homes protected with fire sprinklers.
The video, titled “Living with Home Sprinklers in California” is a collaborative effort between HFSC and CAL FIRE Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM). It teaches homeowners how fire sprinklers work, how to maintain them and it dispels common myths.
California updated its residential construction code in 2010 with the inclusion of fire sprinkler requirements in all new one- and two-family dwellings. Homes built in California beginning January 1, 2011 are protected with this national model code provision that represents minimum standards to ensure a reasonable level of safety for home occupants. Maryland adopted the provision effective in 2011. South Carolina also adopted the requirement, with legislative action delaying its implementation until 2014.
