Today, during the International Association of Fire Chiefs’ Fire and Life Safety Section meeting the Fire Rescue International Conference MD Fire Marshal Bill Barnard received the “Bringing Safety Home” award.
Jointly sponsored by the Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition (HFSC) and the National Fire Protection Association's (NFPA) Fire Sprinkler Initiative®: Bringing Safety Home (FSI), the award recognizes those who use HFSC's educational materials and FSI resources to advocate for home fire sprinkler requirements in one- and two-family dwellings.
Gary Keith, VP of Regional Operations for NFPA presented the award and a said “He will give credit to others…” but added that the achievements in the State of Maryland would not have been possible without Bill’s leadership and efforts.
As reported in a previous post , due to Bill Barnards efforts, Maryland not only adopted the home fire sprinkler requirement in all new one- and two-family dwellings (homes) but a law passed during the 2012 legislative prohibits the weakening of the code by local jurisdictions.
Congratulations on such well deserved recognition!
