NFPA announced the re-election of officers and election of new members to the Board of Directors today at the 2012 NFPA Conference & Expo in Las Vegas, Nevada. The re-elected officers include Philip C. Stittleburg of La Farge, Wis., who has been elected to the board as chair, Ernest J. Grant of Chapel Hill, N.C., who has been elected to the board as first vice chair, Philip J. DiNenno of Baltimore, Md., who has been elected as second vice chair, Randolph W. Tucker of The Woodlands, Texas, who has been re-elected to his current position as secretary, Wayne Boyd, the president and CEO of the U.S. Safety & Engineering Corporation in Sacramento, Calif., who has been re-elected to his current position as treasurer.
New members elected to the board include Harold A. Schaitberger, of Washington, D.C.; William A. Stewart, of Toronto, ON, Canada; and Peter Gore Willse, of Hartford, Conn.
Schaitberger has been the general president of International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) for the last 12 years. He serves on many boards and committees, and in 2009 was elected by President Barack Obama to the Department of Homeland Security Advisory Council. Schaitberger also serves as vice president of AFL-CIO Executive Committee as well as vice president of the Muscular Dystrophy Association of American.
Stewart retired from the position of Fire Chief of Toronto Fire Services, Canada in 2012 after a nearly 40-year career with the fire service. Throughout his career he worked in several positions, including Operations Fire Fighter, Fire Captain, Administration Chief, Assistant Deputy Fire Chief, and Deputy Chief. Stewart is a past president of the Metropolitan Fire Chief’s Association and a past international president of the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE).
Willse is the vice president Director of Research for XL GAPS. He is a member of Society of Fire Protection Engineers’ Board of Directors, Worcester Polytechnic Institute’s Fire Protection Engineering Advisory Board, and a past recipient of NFPA’s Special Achievement Award. Renowned for his publications, Willse has revised chapters in the seventeenth, eighteenth and nineteenth editions of NFPA’s Fire Protection Handbook as well as a chapter in the ninth edition of NFPA’s Fire and Life Safety Inspection Manual.
