Commissioning and Integrated System Testing Handbook

NFPA will be publishing a new handbook which will be available to the public on August 24, 2012 dealing with commissioning and integrated testing of fire protection and life safety systems. This new handbook will contain traditional commentary to the sections of NFPA 3, to guide the user through the commissioning process. The handbook is especially helpful as commissioning is relatively new to the fire protection of life safety industry and this book is written to help provide a foundation of knowledge for those new to the commissioning world. NFPA 3 is the first fire protection document of its kind in the United States that provides commissioning guidance as well as the qualifications for commissioning personnel undertaking commissioning projects.  

After the traditional handbook commentary in part one, there is a supplemental portion of the handbook that provides a complete commissioning plan with forms and tables filled out so that the user can see what a completed commissioning plan looks like. The commissioning plan includes commentary addressing how and why the forms in commissioning plan documents were developed. The handbook will also contain a website link to blank commissioning forms and the sample commissioning plan without commentary so that it can be downloaded and used as a quick reference. The handbook includes a laminated "quick reference" chart that provides an overview of the commissioning process.

For users who by the electronic edition of the handbook, there will be an extra supplement, Part III Individual System Commissioning. Sections outlining the acceptance testing requirements of the applicable design standards for fire pumps, sprinkler systems, standpipe systems, smoke control systems, and fire alarm systems are provided in this supplement. This supplement offers a condensed look at requirements from codes and standards with commentary interspersed to provide direction on how the requirements can be carried out.  You can order the handbook through the catalog now and you will have it by the end of August.
