As the sound of my very upset daughter woke us up this morning, I realized what the problem was: the window in our bedroom was left open, and she was cold. In fact, the night before we had a terribly windy storm (and one of the window screens was blown across the yard) and we’re on a well, so we thought about getting some water together in the refrigerator and in buckets just in case, since if we lose our electricity we lose our water. But wait! The house we’re renting has a generator! When was the last time I checked it???
Like many people, I generally leave some things undone until I need them (then get mad when they don’t work!). To help myself, I recently pulled some pearls of wisdom from NFPA 1221, Standard for the Installation, Maintenance, and Use of Emergency Services Communications Systems, while I was going over the document.
